The Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management (ABBE) is the recognised qualification for professionals who want to lead whole-house retrofit projects under the PAS 2035 standard. It provides the technical knowledge and practical capability to plan, manage, and evaluate domestic retrofit activity, from assessment and design through to installation and post-completion monitoring.

Retrofit Coordinators play a central role in the UK’s journey to net zero, ensuring each project is delivered safely, effectively, and in line with current standards. This qualification opens opportunities in both consultancy and project-management roles across the retrofit supply chain.

The programme is delivered through flexible blended learning which combines online study, tutor-led sessions, live case studies, and optional site-based experiences. We believe this approach is ideal for busy professionals who want to progress at their own pace, but with full tutor support.

Who this course is for.

This course is designed for individuals with experience in the built-environment, energy, or construction sectors who wish to take on the role of Retrofit Coordinator under PAS 2035. You’ll normally need either:

  •  A Level 3 qualification (or higher) in a relevant built-environment discipline or
  •  Equivalent professional experience in housing, building services, or energy efficiency.
Our team can review your qualifications before enrolment and confirm your eligibility.

The qualification is assessed through a blend of knowledge tests, written assignments, and a final case-study presentation. Each module includes multiple-choice questions and short-answer tasks designed to confirm your understanding of both theory and practice.

The final assessment consists of a detailed case-study exercise and structured professional discussion with your assessor. All assessments are verified internally by Synergy Training Centre and externally regulated by the awarding body ABBE (an Ofqual-recognised organisation).

Successful completion leads to the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management, the qualification required to register as a Retrofit Coordinator with a UKAS-approved certification scheme and Trustmark.
