Course Title: Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment(5Days)
Awarding Body: City & Guilds
This five‑day online course, delivered live via Zoom with an expert trainer, provides the skills and knowledge required to assess domestic properties and produce accurate Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). EPCs are a legal requirement when a property is sold or rented, and they are also essential for government‑funded retrofit schemes.
Private landlords must obtain EPCs to demonstrate compliance with the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES), currently set at a minimum rating of E.
Throughout the training, you will complete five real EPC assessments using government‑approved software, giving you practical, hands‑on experience. You will also begin building your qualification portfolio, which includes sample EPCs and academic assignments. Much of this portfolio will be completed during the five days of live training, though some tasks may need to be finished remotely afterwards.
Retrofit Assessor (RA) Training
Building on your Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) qualification, this intensive two‑day course prepares you to carry out professional retrofit assessments for domestic properties. Retrofit Assessors conduct a detailed survey that includes:
RdSAP Data Collection
-
Floor plan creation
-
Ventilation assessment
-
Property condition survey
-
Occupancy assessment
The completed assessment is lodged in the TrustMark Data Warehouse, where it supports Retrofit Coordinators and other stakeholders in progressing retrofit projects.
You may begin your Retrofit Assessor training while finalising your DEA portfolio, but your certificate will only be issued once you have successfully achieved your DEA qualification.
By combining the DEA and Retrofit Assessor Training, you’ll be fully equipped to assess, advise, and contribute to improving energy efficiency and sustainability in UK housing. This pathway enables you to play a key role in creating greener, more energy‑efficient homes.
On successful completion, candidates will achieve the City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment and will be eligible to join one of the government‑approved accreditation schemes, enabling them to practice as qualified Domestic Energy Assessors.
